Description

The Research Forests, part of the OSU College of Forestry, are comprised of ten premier research, teaching, and demonstration forests located throughout Oregon.  These forests host more than 200,000 public recreation visits per year and contain 190 miles of roads and 77 miles of multi-use trails. The primary responsibility of the Research Forests Recreation and Engagement Manager is to lead the recreation and engagement program in accordance with the Forests’ teaching, research, and demonstration missions. The incumbent in this position serves as a primary member of the Research Forests management team. 
 
Specific areas of responsibility include: providing leadership in recreation planning and management at both the strategic and operational levels; working collaboratively with recreation groups and other stakeholders, and OSU campus communities; recreation program staffing and budgeting; setting policy, direction, and guidelines for the evolution of the recreation program. 
 
Additional areas of responsibility include overseeing public information efforts, which includes development of programs and materials for interpretation and communication, and providing timely public information about forest activities via multiple forms of communication, as well as coordination and administration of education events and programs.  

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:  
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, recreation planning, forestry or natural resource management, or closely related fields. 
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in outdoor recreation planning and management, supporting a broad spectrum of recreation uses and needs. 
Supervisory experience, including staffing. 
Demonstrable experience in working with and serving on advisory committees, community groups, or other forms of public outreach and collaboration. 
Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with media and the public, using a variety of methods.  
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. 
A demonstrable commitment to creating respectful, safe, and inclusive work and learning environments . 
 
Preferred Qualifications:  
Master’s degree in recreation, recreation planning, forestry or natural resource management, or closely related fields. 
Course work or experience in natural resource interpretation. 
Experience conducting performance reviews. 
Experience in conducting program/unit evaluations. 
Experience working with volunteers. 
Fundraising experience. 
Budgeting experience. 
Experience mentoring and working with students.
