Family Lawyers Wanted | 1+ and 2+ PAE
Glen Iris, Melbourne | $100,000–$150,000 + Super + Bonus
Eager to get into the Court Room? Looking for genuine mentorship, quality private-client work and a clear pathway towards becoming an LIV Accredited Specialist in Family Law?
The Family Lawyer is an established, growing boutique family law firm based in Glen Iris, with additional offices across Melbourne.
We are looking for two family lawyers, one with 1+ PAE and another with 2+ PAE, who want more than just another legal job. We are offering the opportunity to develop genuine expertise, take ownership of meaningful work and build a long-term career in family law.
We focus on quality private-client matters, practical outcomes and building strong client relationships. Our lawyers are encouraged to think strategically, develop sound judgement and become confident, capable practitioners.
You will work directly with our Principal, an LIV Accredited Specialist in Family Law, who is actively involved in mentoring, supervising and developing the firm's lawyers.
What's in it for you?
- Competitive remuneration: $100,000–$150,000 + superannuation and performance bonus, commensurate with experience and capability.
- Genuine mentorship: Direct access to the Principal, regular one-on-one supervision, practical guidance and constructive feedback on your legal work.
- Pathway to LIV Accredited Specialisation: Structured professional development, CPD support and exposure to the breadth and complexity of matters needed to develop specialist expertise, with accreditation preparation once eligible.
- Individual career development: A tailored development plan reflecting your experience, strengths, professional interests and long-term career aspirations.
- Real responsibility: Direct client contact, meaningful involvement in strategy, negotiations, mediations and litigation, with supervision appropriate to your experience.
- Long-term career opportunities: Potential progression into Special Counsel, practice leadership or partnership for the right practitioner.
- Established support and systems: A dedicated legal support team, established precedents, structured workflows and modern practice-management systems.
- Quality private-client work: Exposure to a broad range of family law matters, including complex property disputes, challenging parenting matters and financial agreements.
- A personable, collegiate environment: A close-knit team where your contribution is recognised, your ideas are welcomed and professional development is taken seriously.
- An office Labrador: Because even serious family lawyers benefit from a little canine company.
The Roles
Family Lawyer | 2+ PAE
For a practitioner ready to build greater autonomy, strengthen their technical expertise and take increased responsibility for client matters.
You will manage your own files, develop and implement legal strategies, conduct negotiations, prepare complex legal documents and work closely with the Principal on matters requiring specialist input.
You will also have opportunities to develop your exisiting advocacy skills, participate in mediations and court proceedings, and contribute to the development of junior practitioners as your experience grows.
Family Lawyer | 1+ PAE
For a lawyer in the early stages of their family law career who wants to become an excellent practitioner.
You will receive hands-on training, structured supervision and regular feedback while developing the confidence and skills to manage your own matters.
You will not be confined to administrative legal tasks or isolated drafting exercises. You will have genuine exposure to clients, strategy, negotiations and litigation, with increasing responsibility as your capabilities develop.
The Work
Our practice focuses on private-client family law matters, including:
- Property settlements and financial agreements, including complex asset pools, businesses, trusts and superannuation interests.
- Parenting disputes, including recovery, relocation, family violence and complex parenting arrangements.
- Divorce and separation advice.
- Family violence intervention orders.
- Child support and spousal maintenance.
- Drafting affidavits, applications, consent orders, financial statements, advice and substantive correspondence.
- Negotiations, dispute resolution conferences, mediations and settlement strategy.
- Preparing briefs to counsel, working with barristers and participating in court proceedings.
We place considerable emphasis on resolving matters effectively, not simply litigating them. You will learn how to identify the issues that genuinely matter, provide commercially sensible advice and negotiate outcomes that serve your clients.
About You
We are looking for lawyers who take pride in their work, value professional development and want to build a reputation for being excellent family law practitioners.
Ideally, you will have:
- At least 1 or 2 years' post-admission experience, depending on the position, with experience in family law.

- Strong legal drafting, analytical and communication skills.
- Sound professional judgement and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to establish rapport with clients and manage sensitive and emotionally complex situations.
- A commitment to accuracy, accountability, professional integrity and high standards of client service.
- A willingness to receive feedback, take initiative and develop greater independence.
- A current Victorian practising certificate/ admission to the High Court, or eligibility .
Above all, we are interested in lawyers who are intellectually curious, willing to learn and genuinely committed to developing their careers in family law.
Why Join The Family Lawyer?
We are looking for lawyers who want to become exceptional at what they do.
At The Family Lawyer, you will not be another name on a large firm's organisational chart, nor will your development depend on waiting years for meaningful responsibility.
You will work closely with an Accredited Specialist who is invested in developing the next generation of family lawyers, have direct access to senior-level expertise and gain practical experience across all stages of family law disputes.
We offer the structure and supervision needed to develop your skills, together with the autonomy and responsibility that come with demonstrated capability.
We expect high standards, sound judgement and genuine ownership of your work. In return, you will receive guidance, support, opportunities and a clear understanding of how to progress your career.
