Description
Colville School District is now accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE English Language Arts Teacher at Colville High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The teaching assignment may include grades 9-12 Standard, College Prep, or Honors-level English/Language Arts classes. The candidate will need to possess a valid Washington state teaching certificate and an academic background appropriate to the subject area or grade level. The candidate is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students in cooperation with other staff members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as a positive and collaborative member of the school staff to support the primary goals of Colville High School, with a focus on planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of learning experiences for students.
- Implement grade 9-12 English/Language Arts content matter, instructional strategies, and current effective teaching to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
- Participate in weekly grade-level planning meetings and professional learning community (PLC) collaborations.
- Deliver effective instruction and assessment aligned with the Washington State Learning Standards and the District Curriculum goals for High School grade levels.
- Develop both long- and short-range instructional plans for assigned subject areas.
- Address individual learning needs and differences of students.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of subject matter in classroom instruction.
- Foster a classroom climate built on mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency.
- Exhibit proficiency in instructional skills.
- Evaluate instruction based on established goals and revise teaching approaches as needed according to evaluation results.
- Inform students of their progress in relation to learning objectives set for the lessons or courses of study.
- Interact positively with students, colleagues, and school district patrons.
- Perform job-related, non-teaching duties as assigned.
- Supervise student teachers, teacher assistants, tutors, and volunteers when applicable.
- Manage student discipline and attendance issues effectively.
- Participate actively in staff development activities.

- Employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally while carrying, pushing, and/or pulling to move objects.

- Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, do some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching, and have significant fine finger dexterity.

Salary & Benefits
This position is part of the Colville Education Association (CEA) Teacher's Bargaining Unit. Salary is in accordance with Colville Education Association (CEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement. Qualifications

- Valid Washington State teaching certification with endorsement appropriate to the assignment. Note: Candidates with multiple endorsements preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with parents and to clearly articulate school programs and the State of Washington Essential Academic Learning Requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to decision making in collaboration with administrators, other staff members, and parent community.
- Knowledge of and ability to assess and design instruction for a classroom of diverse learners (English as a Second Language [ESL], highly capable, learning disabled, autistic, orthopedically or gross-motor impaired, health impaired, intellectually disabled, communication disordered, behavior disabilities, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods in grades 9-12.
- Demonstrated ability to use the four essential teaching behaviors of assessment, evaluation, planning, and instruction to deliver quality programs for all students.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective classroom management.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Must have knowledge and experience using technology in the delivery of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to analyze instructional practices through regular and ongoing observations and dialogues associated with mentoring and coaching.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- A favorable reporting of a state and national fingerprint background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multiple teaching endorsements in Washington State.
- Previous experience teaching high school English classes.
- Interest in teaching College in the High School courses if the opportunity arises.
- Shows willingness to serve as a student class advisor or club advisor.
- Shows willingness to attend and/or help at school extracurricular activities.
