The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary academic program providing comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with common and complex skeletal and mineral disorders.
The position is particularly suited for an endocrinologist interested in developing expertise in the diagnosis and longitudinal management of osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease, inherited skeletal disorders, and abnormalities of calcium, phosphate, and parathyroid hormone metabolism. The faculty member will participate in clinical care, teaching, and scholarly activities and will have opportunities to collaborate with specialists across the institution.
Clinical Responsibilities
The faculty member will provide outpatient consultation and longitudinal care for patients with a broad range of metabolic bone and mineral disorders, including:
- Osteoporosis and high or very high fracture risk, including complex and secondary osteoporosis
- Osteomalacia and disorders of bone mineralization
- Primary, secondary, and tertiary hyperparathyroidism
- Hypoparathyroidism and other disorders of calcium homeostasis
- Hypercalcemia and hypocalcemia
- Hypophosphatemia, hyperphosphatemia, and disorders of renal phosphate handling
- X-linked hypophosphatemia and other FGF23-mediated disorders
- Hypophosphatasia
- Osteogenesis imperfecta and other inherited disorders of skeletal fragility
- Paget disease of bone

- Disorders of vitamin D metabolism
- Medication-associated and endocrine-related bone disease
- Skeletal complications associated with malignancy, transplantation, chronic kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, and other systemic illnesses
- Unexplained fractures, abnormal bone density, or abnormalities of bone turnover
The successful candidate should also be comfortable managing general endocrinology conditions including diabetes and diseases of the thyroid, pituitary, adrenal glands. Intermittent staffing of a busy inpatient endocrinology service will also be required.
Education
Consistent with an academic faculty appointment, educational responsibilities will include teaching medical students, residents, endocrinology fellows, and other trainees. The faculty member will participate in endocrine conferences and educational activities and will contribute to the training of endocrinology fellows in metabolic bone disease and mineral metabolism.
Depending upon experience and interest, the faculty member may participate in or assume leadership roles in metabolic bone disease conferences, clinical programs, and educational initiatives.
Scholarship and Research
The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue scholarly activities related to metabolic bone disease and mineral metabolism. Opportunities may include clinical research, translational research, clinical trials, outcomes research, quality improvement, development of patient registries, and collaborative investigation of rare skeletal disorders. Protected academic time and research expectations will be determined according to the candidate's experience, interests, funding, and academic track.
Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
- Completion of an accredited fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism
- Board certification or eligibility in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism
- Eligibility for medical licensure
- Demonstrated interest or expertise in metabolic bone disease and mineral metabolism
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and medical education
- Strong communication and collaborative skills
The position offers the opportunity to build a focused academic clinical practice, participate in multidisciplinary care of patients with challenging skeletal disorders, educate the next generation of endocrinologists, and contribute to the growth of a comprehensive metabolic bone and mineral metabolism program.
