The City of South Lyon is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join the Department of Public Works team in July 2026.  This is a great opportunity to work outdoors, contribute to your community, and build a desired skill set in a hands-on environment.  This role offers the chance to make a visible impact on the community while working as part of a dedicated and supportive team. 

Job responsibility's include: operate and maintain a wide variety of equipment, including backhoes, dump trucks, snow plows, tractors, and lawn mowers.  Perform essential street and building maintenance, assist with general construction projects across city properties, install and repair water and sewer infrastructure and maintain parks, trail, and landscaped area to keep our community clean, safe and welcoming.

Full time hourly, non-exempt, AFSCME union position

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean and valid driver's license
• Must be legally able to work in the U.S.
• Current and valid State of Michigan CDL (B) drivers license (air brake endorsement)- preferred
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a CDL B with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to safely operate equipment and perform physical duties
• Flexibility to participate in an on-call schedule
