Description
Cultivate Land and People: An Opportunity to Drive Impact
Rayonier is seeking a visionary and results-driven leader to take ownership of our Louisiana District. As the District Manager, you won't just follow a plan; you'll shape it. This is not a job; it's a mission to maximize the value, sustainability, and output of one of our most vital assets—145,000 acres of prime timberland. We're looking for someone who doesn't just manage, but thrives on complexity, sees the big picture, and knows how to execute for success.
Your Mandate: Ownership and Success
You will own the success of the Louisiana District. This means:
Commanding the P&L: You will not just manage a budget; you will drive profitability. You will direct the creation and execution of annual capital and operating budgets, taking full responsibility for meeting cost targets and financial objectives. Think of this as running your own multi-million dollar business unit.
Orchestrating the Operation: From the first seedling to the final log delivery, you are responsible for the entire process. You will oversee harvest planning, the entire silvicultural lifecycle (reforestation to commercial thinning), and a robust transportation network. You make sure that our products fulfill commitments, adhere to strict quality specifications, and are delivered to customers on time.
Pioneering Innovation: Success means optimization. You will work with our Business Development, Land Services and Portfolio Management teams to unlock the full potential of company lands, identifying and implementing the best land uses to maximize value.
Leading from the Front: This isn't a desk job. You will provide high-level supervision to your team and our vast contractor network, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant field operations. You will lead by example, building a culture where safety is paramount and everyone is empowered to excel.
Championing the Land and the People: You will be the face of Rayonier in the Gulf South, building vital relationships with local communities, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders. You will ensure our operations strictly adhere to BMPs, SOPs, and stewardship principles, proving that sustainable management and strong business success go hand-in-hand.
Requirements
The Profile for Success:
We are seeking a proactive leader who possesses the experience and determination to thrive, not just a passive manager.
Expertise in Action: A bachelor’s in Forestry or closely related field is required. A master's degree in a related field is preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in forest operations and five (5)+ years in a supervisory role.
Business Savvy: You understand that forestry is a business. Experience with P&L and complex budget management is a must. You can analyze data, see trends, and make decisive, profit-oriented decisions.
A Natural Leader: You are a natural motivator and mentor. You don't just assign tasks; you empower your team to own their responsibilities and grow their careers. You have the strong communication skills needed to lead a diverse team and engage with critical external partners.
The Heart of a Steward: You understand the immense responsibility of managing 145,000 acres. You are committed to safety, environmental stewardship and BMPs knowing that doing right by the land is the foundation for all long-term success.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This role requires extensive physical activity, including hiking across varied terrain (uneven ground, slopes, wetlands, and dense vegetation), carrying equipment and supplies, and performing strenuous tasks like inventory measurements and sale setup. Work involves maintaining stability on uneven surfaces, navigating obstacles, and working in challenging positions, often outdoors in diverse weather conditions. Operating machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles are also required. Some travel (approximately 25%) is required.
This Is Not a Typical Forestry Job.
This is an opportunity to make an impact. It's a chance to apply your expertise, to lead a talented team, and to take full ownership of a business unit.
If you are ready to define success on 145,000 acres, we want to talk to you. Apply today to become the District Manager of our Louisiana District.
