As an Associate Veterinarian at 4 Paws for Ability, you’ll support the well-being and health of our service dogs from birth through placement. This is more than just a job — it's a chance to be part of a mission that truly matters. You’ll not only take care of our dogs, but you will also make an impact on children with disabilities and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Appointments to address medical concerns as well as perform routine examinations and vaccines for service dogs in training
- Perform initial health evaluations of potential breeding dogs
- Address medical concerns that training staff have when working with dogs
- Communicate medical information to volunteers in person or via phone/email when appropriate
- Communicate with other departments regarding the health status of service dogs in training when necessary
- Perform basic surgical procedures such as routine ovariohysterectomy, castration, mass removal, etc.
- Perform basic dental prophylaxis on dogs within the 4 Paws program when needed
Requirements
Must Have
- A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited Veterinary College
- A current Ohio Veterinary License in good standing (This includes completing the required number of continuing education hours as required by law)
- Proficiency in routine surgical procedures
- Knowledge of common diseases that occur in a kennel environment and appropriate treatments
- Good critical thinking skills
- Ability to work in a team environment to coordinate dogs’ needs within departments
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Nice to Have
- USDA Accreditation
- At least two years related experience
Physical Ability/Work Environment
- Capable of safely lifting objects weighing up to 45 pounds and safely handling, holding, and restraining active dogs weighing up to 110 pounds.
- Ability to maintain extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and/or stooping on hard surfaces while on one's feet.
