Position Summary:
Sinai Hospital is seeking an experiencedAdvanced Practice Provider (APP)–Physician Assistant (PA)orNurse Practitioner (NP)– to join ourCardiac Surgery teamon aPRN basis. This position requiresprior experience in cardiac surgery, includingproficiency in endoscopic and open saphenous vein harvesting, first-assisting in cardiac surgical procedures, and comprehensive perioperative patient care. The APP will work in a dynamic, high-acuity environment providing care across theOperating Room, Inpatient Units, and Outpatient Clinic, with scheduledon-call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Perioperative Surgical Duties:
First-assist in allcardiac surgical procedures.
Performendoscopic and open saphenous vein harvestingandradial artery harvesting.
Prepare harvested conduits and manage incision closure.
Participate inpreoperative preparation, intraoperative support, andimmediate postoperative carein the OR.
Providescheduled surgical OR call coverage.
Inpatient Care:
Coordinate care forcardiac surgery inpatients.
Performcomprehensive history and physical examsfor all preoperative patients.
Deliverdaily postoperative managementon theOpen-Heart Step Down Unit (OHSD).
Respond tocardiac surgery consultspromptly.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop care plans in collaboration with cardiac surgeons.
Outpatient Clinic Duties:
Conductpreoperative and postoperative evaluations.
Manage patients in thecardiac surgery outpatient clinic.
Coordinate care transitions to referring providers and specialty services.
Call Coverage:
Provideon-call coverage from home, including urgent consults, emergent surgical cases, and inpatient issues.
Professional Expectations:
Foster strong, collaborative relationships with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Maintain professionalism, clinical excellence, and adherence to hospitalMission and Vision.
Comply withinfection control, safety, and quality standards.
Participate inongoing educationand professional development in cardiac surgery.
Qualifications:
Education&Licensure:
Current Maryland licenseas aPhysician Assistant (PA)orCertified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)(or eligibility to obtain).
Certified byNCCPA(for PAs) or appropriateNP board certification.
DEA registrationandMaryland CDS licenserequired.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)– Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)– Required
Experience:
Cardiac surgery experience required
Proficient inendoscopic vein harvestingandfirst-assisting in cardiac surgery.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in ahigh-acuity, fast-paced environment.
Strong clinical, communication, and organizational skills.
