Overview

The Territory Golf & Country Club is seeking an experienced, service-oriented First Assistant Golf Professional to help lead its golf operation.

This is a lead operational and developmental position designed to prepare the selected professional to take ownership of The Territory's golf operation. Reporting directly to the General Manager/Head Golf Professional, the First Assistant Golf Professional will receive hands-on mentorship while progressively assuming responsibility for the department's day-to-day leadership and performance. The goal is for this individual to demonstrate the ability to successfully lead golf operations and advance into the Head Golf Professional position within approximately 12 months-or sooner if their performance, leadership, and readiness warrant.

The ideal candidate is a visible and engaged golf professional who enjoys building relationships, playing golf with members, developing employees, teaching the game, and taking ownership of the golf operation.
Advancement Opportunity

This position is intentionally structured as a training and succession opportunity. The goal is for the First Assistant Golf Professional to progressively take ownership of golf operations and develop into The Territory's Head Golf Professional, with an anticipated training and evaluation period of up to 12 months.

The First Assistant Golf Professional will participate in formal quarterly performance and professional-development reviews with the General Manager / Head Golf Professional. Reviews will evaluate progress in leadership, member service, staff management, tournament execution, merchandising and financial performance, instruction and player development, administrative effectiveness, and overall readiness to lead the golf operation.

Promotion does not have to wait until the completion of 12 months. A professional who demonstrates the leadership, judgment, capacity, initiative, and consistent performance necessary to successfully lead the department may be considered for promotion sooner. Any promotion will be based on demonstrated readiness to assume full responsibility for the golf operation. PGA Class A membership is required before promotion.
Compensation and Additional Income

In addition to a base salary of $45,000-$55,000, the position provides meaningful opportunities to earn additional income through instruction, player-development programming, and merchandise performance.

• The professional will receive 90% of individual private-lesson revenue.
• Earning at least $10,000 annually through private instruction is considered very attainable for an engaged teaching professional.
• Additional income can be generated through clinics, group instruction, junior golf programming, and PGA Jr. League activities.
• The professional will receive a merchandise-performance incentive equal to 25% of merchandise revenue generated over budget, provided cost of goods sold remains within 5% of budget.
• Member and guest gratuities are permitted where appropriate.

Total anticipated annual compensation is approximately $65,000-$75,000, with additional earning potential available to a professional who actively develops instruction, clinics, junior programming, and golf-shop performance.
Junior Golf Growth Opportunity

The Territory launched its first PGA Jr. League program in 2026 with more than 60 participating children. The inaugural program was thoughtfully designed, well organized, and successfully operated, establishing a strong foundation for continued growth.

The First Assistant Golf Professional will inherit an active and growing junior-golf platform rather than being asked to build one from the ground up. The professional will be expected to maintain the quality of the existing program, develop meaningful relationships with junior golfers and their families, and continue expanding PGA Jr. League, clinics, instruction, and other junior player-development opportunities. This area also provides meaningful additional-income potential for a motivated teaching professional.
Schedule and Work Expectations

This is a full-time salaried leadership position with hours that fluctuate according to the club's operating calendar, tournament schedule, weather, and level of member activity.

During the primary golf season, the position should anticipate working approximately 55-60 hours per week, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, tournaments, and major club events. During slower operating periods, the typical workload is expected to average approximately 30-40 hours per week.

The First Assistant Golf Professional will have meaningful control over their own schedule and will be responsible for organizing their time around the needs of the golf operation. The expectation is not that the professional remain behind the golf-shop counter simply to accumulate hours. The professional must ensure that the department is properly staffed, important responsibilities are completed, and members and guests consistently receive an exceptional experience.

The professional is strongly encouraged to play golf multiple times each week, particularly with members and prospective members. Playing golf is considered an important part of member engagement, relationship building, and understanding the daily golf experience. This flexibility is contingent upon the golf operation remaining properly staffed and covered.

Experience Required

Experience and Qualifications

• PGA Class A membership in good standing is strongly preferred.
• Experienced Level 3 PGA Associates nearing completion of the PGA Professional Golf Management Program may be considered.
• Progressive experience in private-club golf operations, tournament management, merchandising, instruction, and staff leadership.
• Strong understanding of the Rules of Golf, handicap administration, pace-of-play management, and daily golf operations.
• Experience purchasing, receiving, displaying, pricing, selling, and controlling golf-shop merchandise.
• Ability to recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and develop golf-operations employees.
• Strong communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build meaningful relationships with members, guests, coworkers, vendors, and event clients.
• Ability and desire to play and understand the game at a high level.
• Proficiency with point-of-sale, tee-sheet, tournament-management, and basic administrative systems.
• Ability to work a seasonally demanding schedule while independently managing departmental coverage and personal responsibilities.
• Willingness to relocate to Duncan, Oklahoma.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day golf operation under the direction of the General Manager.
• Provide exceptional service and build positive relationships with members and guests.
• Manage tee sheets, daily play, pace of play, guest policies, handicap services, practice facilities, cart operations, range operations, and golf rules.
• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and evaluate golf professionals, golf-shop employees, and outside-service staff.
• Plan and execute member tournaments, major events, outings, leagues, junior activities, and player-development programs.
• Lead, strengthen, and continue growing The Territory's PGA Jr. League program, which welcomed more than 60 participants in its inaugural 2026 season.
• Oversee tournament preparation, scoring, communication, staging, awards, and post-event follow-up.
• Develop and manage golf-department budgets, forecasts, payroll, revenue, expenses, inventory controls, and operating reports.
• Oversee merchandising, purchasing, receiving, displays, special orders, inventory accuracy, pricing, and overall golf-shop presentation.
• Provide individual golf instruction, clinics, junior programming, and other player-development opportunities.
• Maintain an active presence with members and play golf with members and prospective members regularly.
• Resolve member and guest concerns professionally and promptly.
• Coordinate closely with agronomy, food and beverage, membership, sales, accounting, facilities, and club leadership.
• Assist with membership recruitment, retention, and prospective-member experiences.
• Serve as the principal golf-operations leader when the General Manager is unavailable.
• Maintain a professional, welcoming, clean, and organized golf operation.
• Represent The Territory and the PGA profession appropriately.
• Perform other reasonable duties consistent with the position as assigned.
