Konza Technopolis is the Kenyan government's flagship technology city. Fifteen years in, it has ten hospital sites designated on its master plan and none of them built — no clinic, no physician, no imaging of any kind. The catchment is roughly four million people, and the county has no radiologist.
JP Muia Health System is opening the first clinic there, and we are looking for the person who takes it from a plan to a licensed, functioning facility in six months.
THE ROLE
You would commission an outpatient clinic of 105.5 square metres delivering general practice, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, X-ray, ultrasound, dental and scheduled patient transport, with twenty-two posts plus relief cover. Born digital from day one — one patient record, biometric patient identification, no paper.
You would own the opening plan and budget; the contractor tender, fit-out and equipment commissioning; four regulatory approvals and empanelment with Kenya's national payer; recruitment of the full establishment; the electronic record and billing workflows; standard operating procedures; and financial controls. After opening, day-to-day non-clinical operations. You would report to the Chief Executive.
This is a hands-on commissioning role, not an administrative post, and the first senior operational hire in the organisation.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A degree in hospital or healthcare administration, business, operations management, nursing or clinical medicine. Five to eight years of relevant experience, preferably in healthcare. Direct experience opening or commissioning a clinic, diagnostic facility or hospital — in Kenya strongly preferred. Strong project management, procurement and vendor negotiation. Comfortable owning several workstreams at once.
COMPENSATION — STATED PLAINLY
KES 250,000 per month, approximately USD 23,000 per year. That is above the top of the Kenyan market band for this title. It is not a US package and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
This role will suit a Kenyan healthcare administrator, a member of the diaspora returning home, or an executive at a point in their career where building something from nothing matters more than the number. Relocation to Konza or Machakos is required. The start date is tied to the close of our current financing round.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL
— A degree in hospital or healthcare administration, business administration, operations management, nursing or clinical medicine. — Five to eight years of relevant experience, preferably in healthcare. — Direct experience opening, commissioning or expanding a clinic, diagnostic facility or hospital. — Strong project management: able to run a tender, hold a timeline and a budget, and report progress and risk to a chief executive. — Procurement and vendor negotiation, including medical equipment. — Experience recruiting, contracting and managing staff. — Able to write and implement standard operating procedures. — Comfortable owning several workstreams at once and solving problems without being asked. — Willing to relocate to Konza or Machakos County, Kenya.
STRONGLY PREFERRED
— Commissioning experience in Kenya, or elsewhere in East Africa. — Working knowledge of Kenyan facility licensing and national payer empanelment — or demonstrated ability to learn an unfamiliar regulatory environment quickly. — Experience implementing an electronic health record and digital registration, billing or patient-identification workflows. — Experience commissioning imaging or laboratory equipment. — A project management or quality management qualification.
NOT REQUIRED
— Kenyan nationality. We will support work authorisation for the right candidate. — Prior experience in a start-up or greenfield organisation, though it helps.
WHAT WOULD MAKE SOMEONE WRONG FOR THIS
This is a hands-on commissioning role in a place with no existing facility, no incumbent team and no established supplier relationships. If you need an administrative structure already in place to be effective, this is not the role. If the compensation stated in the description is a problem, it is better that we both know now.
