This is an exciting opportunity to establish and lead the change delivery unit within the Sanger’s IT function, specifically adopting more agile approaches to change delivery.

About the role: 

You will lead the new Agile Change Delivery unit for ICT within the Wellcome Sanger Institute. This new unit (circa 8 FTE) is focussed on successful delivery of change projects. This includes establishing and growing the team to include the relevant skill sets, eg project/sprint/delivery management, business analysis, solutions design, change management and process improvement. Many of these projects are critical to the science and the operations of the Sanger. This role is therefore critical to the ICT function and critical to the Sanger’s success.

You will work with senior managers and stakeholders across the institution to establish the new unit and new ways of working. This includes managing and prioritising the institution’s IT-intensive projects, supporting their team to successfully deliver, dealing with escalations and removing blockers.

You will work with ICT colleagues to coordinate changes within the ICT organisation and across the overall institute.

You will be a member of the ICT leadership team and will help determine the strategy and directly enable the ICT organisation to add even more value to the institute and its science.

Specifically, this role will also include helping the entire ICT organisation become more agile in its approach.

Essential Skills

  • Experience of leading change delivery teams, covering project/delivery management, analysis, solutions design, business change management and process improvement. 
  • Experience of agile delivery principles, and the ability to establish them in organisations hitherto using other methods, e.g. waterfall. 
  • Excellence in leadership and able to communicate and influence at all levels, including board-level, securing the required outcomes in a complex stakeholder landscape 
  • Experience of forming and leading high-performing teams, both directly managed and virtual. 
  • Proven track record on delivering change 

Ideal Skills

  • Excellent strategic thinking: able to lead on the development and delivery of organisation-wide strategies and roadmaps.
  • An appreciation of science and the discovery of knowledge.
  • Experience of managing complex project portfolios, including their fit with other change programmes in other business areas.
