Role Description Overview
The Director of Marketing oversees Visit Rapid City’s efforts to enhance destination awareness and drive visitation to the region. This role requires strong collaboration skills to inspire creativity and enthusiasm among team members. Leading a diverse team of strategists, content creators, and designers, the Director of Marketing works closely with various departments, executive leaders, agencies, and community stakeholders.

The Director of Marketing embodies a flexible, creative, and entrepreneurial spirit, with a deep passion for the mission, vision, and values of VRC. This role requires extensive marketing experience with knowledge in media buying, ad placement, performance tracking, destination research, and analyzing campaign success. Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills are essential, as well as effective collaboration across organizational departments. The Director of Marketing is highly organized and disciplined, ensuring timely follow-up with staff, partners, and employees to meet business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all efforts related to the development and execution of the annual Visit Rapid City Marketing Plan. Collaborate and delegate as appropriate to internal marketing staff, sales staff, digital agencies, media agencies, and social media agencies to achieve KPIs
Directly manages the marketing team and is responsible for internal workflows, ensuring integration across platforms, initiatives, and team members
Oversee strategy development, media plan development, advertising purchases, website development/maintenance, public relations, social media efforts, copywriting, and in-house creative
Champion data and market research to make marketing decisions, measure success, and gain actionable insights
Resolve challenges, brainstorm solutions, and provide training opportunities to ensure the marketing team performs above standard
Create and manage departmental P&L and work closely with CEO to develop the annual budget
Collaborate closely with marketing team to offer strategic guidance for advertising and marketing, enabling them to ensure seamless alignment of all creative outputs with Visit Rapid City’s brand identity
Work with the sales team to advance Visit Rapid City’s position in the industry as a premier location for conventions and sporting events
Build and oversee relationships and contracts with outside agencies and vendors in support of Visit Rapid City brands/marketing strategy. Ensure all advertising recommendations and media buying strategies are on-point with the leisure, meeting, and sports markets to ensure key metrics are being met and key learnings are being implemented
Responsible for regular reporting to executive leadership, board, and industry as appropriate and at the direction of the CEO. The Director of Marketing will report monthly, quarterly, and/or annually on key organizational KPIs, campaign performance, and important marketing initiatives
