Job Summary
The Water/Wastewater Operator is an integral part of the operations and maintenance of the Town’s water and wastewater treatment facilities and related collection/distribution systems. This position is responsible for the effective treatment of drinking water and the safe return of treated wastewater to the Eagle River. Duties include operating valves and motors, performing water quality sampling and analysis, troubleshooting mechanical equipment, and completing general maintenance. Operators will be assigned tasks for both the water and wastewater plants, along with seasonal collection and distribution system work. The position involves extensive field work, laboratory testing, and manual maintenance. Working as part of a small, integrated utility team, operators may gain experience in both disciplines as workload, background, and training allow.
Hiring Range: $23.64 - $45.59 per hour based on qualifications
Hiring Ranges (Hourly), Water/Wastewater Licensing and Placement Levels:
Operator A: $36.49 – $45.59 (Max $54.69), 4+ years’ experience
Operator B: $31.65 – $37.98 (Max $44.31), 3+ years’ experience
Operator C: $29.65 - $35.58 (Max $41.51, 2+ years’ experience)
Operator D: $26.84 – $32.21 (Max $38.65), up to 1 year experience
Trainee: $23.64 – $28.37 (Max $33.09) - No license; must obtain Class D within 6 months
Colorado Class III Collection System Certification required for Operators A–C within a timeframe set by management.
Hiring Bonus for Licensed Operators: $3,000 with $1,500 paid in first paycheck and $1,500 paid at 6-month anniversary, based on performance.

Department: Public Works – Water/Wastewater
Reports to: Lead Water Operator – ORC / Lead Wastewater Operator – ORC, indirectly reports to Utility Manager
Requirements
Essential Functions
- Operate, monitor, and maintain both water and wastewater treatment plants in compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Perform calculations, adjust feed and flow rates, and conduct laboratory testing for process control and compliance.
- Monitor SCADA systems, collect and analyze operational data, and make process adjustments.
- Perform inspection, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on equipment and facilities.
- Operate and maintain the water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including sewer main flushing, repairs, lift station maintenance, manhole inspections, leak repairs, hydrant repair and flushing, pump station, P.R.V. and tank maintenance, water meters, locates, and service taps.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports.
- Respond to system alarms, participate in rotating on-call schedule, and work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ensure safe work practices and maintain good public relations when interacting with residents, vendors, and partner agencies.
- Assist other Public Works divisions when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Ability to live within 45 miles of the Town of Eagle Public Works Facility (travel time not to exceed 60 minutes).
- Ability to obtain a Colorado Class D Water and/or Wastewater License within 6 months of hire.
- Preferred: Colorado Collection System I or II License (or ability to obtain Collection I within 6 months and Collection II within 18 months).
- Interest in obtaining higher-level certifications in both Water and Wastewater.
- Ability to work overtime and be on call as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Thursday 7:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Friday half-day schedule when possible. Must be available for on-call duties during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
