Respiratory Therapist
Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory treatment and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. The therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans, explaining the purpose and procedure of treatments and equipment to patients, and providing necessary education for discharge.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine evaluations and assess patient needs to develop treatment plans.
- Administer physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory equipment, invasive and non-invasive devices, and aerosol and nebulizer devices.
- Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using multiple methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal).
- Monitor patient oximetry and capnography in accordance with policy.
- Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist in diagnostic procedures (e.g., Bronchoscopy, Chest Tube placement).
- Manage tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tubes as required.
- Perform arterial punctures and monitor ventilation efficiency.
- Document patient responses and treatment records accurately.
- Communicate regularly with attending physicians regarding patient therapy efficiency.
- Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Maintain respiratory therapy equipment and ensure compliance with quality control measures.
Schedule
This position is for a night shift, specifically a 1x12.0 schedule.
Assignment Duration
This is a 13-week contract position.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Current Respiratory Therapist license.
- Experience in an acute care setting preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Competence with ventilatory equipment and respiratory care techniques.
