TITLE: Sr. Specialist, Accreditation
STATUS: Exempt
LEVEL: Sr. Specialist
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Sr. Director, Learning Shared Services
SUPERVISORY POSITION
Travel: Up to 10% of travel is required to fulfill job responsibilities which may include evenings/overnight and weekends for the annual meeting, and/or staff retreats.
POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
This role supports the Learning Shared Services team by ensuring all ACR educational activities comply with ACCME Accreditation Criteria, Joint Accreditation Standards for Interprofessional Continuing Education, and ABIM/ABP MOC requirements. The position oversees accreditation compliance, activity documentation, reporting, needs assessments, and committee management.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accreditation Compliance & Activity File Management
- Serve as an internal expert on ACCME, Joint Accreditation, and ABIM/ABP MOC requirements.
- Interpret and communicate accreditation standards to staff and committees; provide training and guidance to ensure consistent compliance.
- Monitor regulatory updates and translate policies into clear operational procedures.
- Manage disclosure collection, review, mitigation, and documentation in accordance with Standards for Integrity and Independence.
- Maintain and update SOPs, policies, templates, and materials for CME/MOC/IPCE activities.
- Determine appropriate credit types and amounts for ACR educational activities.
- Ensure accurate and compliant CME/MOC representations on ACR’s platforms.
- Oversee accurate system setup, testing, and validation for credit claiming.
- Create and maintain activity records in JAPARS and support reaccreditation documentation.
Needs Assessments, Gap Analysis & Outcomes
- Lead development and management of needs assessments for Education Department activities and consult other departments as they develop accredited programming.
- Evaluate program content, gap analysis, and outcomes using Moore’s 7 Levels.
- Provide guidance to staff and planning committees to ensure educational needs, objectives, content, and evaluation tools are appropriately aligned.
- Ensure accredited activities reflect documented target audience needs and the organization’s mission.
Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive reports for CME, MOC, and IPCE activities, including credit calculations, attendance data, finances, and accreditation file completeness.
- Prepare annual reports on CME/MOC/IPCE programs, including analysis of program outcomes and accomplishments, and other annual reports as required by ACR’s Joint Accreditation status.
- Develop Self Study Reports, Performance-in-Practice Reviews, and Accreditation Interview materials under leadership direction.
- Provide timelines to business owners relative to accreditation compliance items (disclosures, certificates, CME calculations, etc.).
Grant Development
- Work with Strategic Relations and program managers to ensure compliance in all grant-related processes.
- Use needs assessment data to guide medical writers or guide grant applications supporting Education Department activities.
- Submit grants on schedule and maintain complete grant activity files.
- Consult for other departments regarding grants submissions as needed.
- Assist in development and administration of CPD online educational activities, ensuring all required accreditation documentation is maintained.
Committee Management
- Serve as staff liaison to the Continuing Education Accreditation Subcommittee.
- Coordinate subcommittee goals, communications, agenda development, meeting logistics, follow-up actions, and reporting.
- Support nomination processes and ensure proper documentation.
- Oversee disclosure review and mitigation processes in partnership with the subcommittee.
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or senior leadership to advance organizational goals.
Requirements
- BA/ BS plus five (5) years’ experience working with the CME and MOC process, or MS/MA/MBA/JD plus three (3) years’ experience in a related field, or more than eight (8) years’ experience with no post-secondary degree.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Accreditation Criteria and Joint Accreditation Standards for Interprofessional Continuing Education required. Additionally, knowledge of ABIM and ABP MOC policies, including the Standards for Commercial Support; the American Medical Association (AMA) Physician’s Recognition Award and Credit System for Continuing Medical Education (CME); and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program required.
- Experience working in a medical society preferred.
- Project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and writing skills, with demonstrated success partnering with staff, volunteers, members, and vendors at all levels.
- Proactive and detailoriented with strong problemsolving, writing, proofreading, and presentation skills, and excellent oral communication.
- Professional proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word is required. Web browsing proficiency is also required.
- Familiarity with virtual meeting software applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams or similar is required.
- Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and workflow management (Asana) software is preferred.
