The Senior Labour and Employee Relations Business Partner is an integral member of the Human Resources team, providing comprehensive support across a variety of Human Resources and Labour Relations functions. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-focused, and able to manage confidential information with discretion. This role contributes to the delivery of Human Resources and Employee Labour Relations Functions while supporting employees and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
The Labour and Employee Relations Business Partner is an integral member of the Human Resources team, providing comprehensive support across a variety of Human Resources and Labour Relations functions. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-focused, and able to manage confidential information with discretion. This role contributes to the delivery of Human Resources and Employee Labour Relations Functions while supporting employees and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the primary contact for Employee and Labour Relations matters within a multifaceted Union Environment
Lead the grievance processes, support contract interpretation, and provide recommendations on workplace concerns
Must have a strong understanding of Disability Management within both Unionized and Non-Unionized environments
Guide leaders on a wide range of employee and labour relations matters, ensuring decisions align with employment legislation and collective agreements.
Must have a strong understanding of the Health and Safety ACT, Employment Standards, Human Rights, and compliance within both a Unionized and Non-Unionized setting.
Take the lead in the development of polices that are aligned with multiple CBA‘s current legislation for both a Union and Non-Union environments
Conduct detailed and impartial investigations related to policy concerns, complaints, and sensitive employee situations.
Develops and delivers training and learning sessions for employees and leaders through both in-person and Virtual formats.
Collaborates with Union representatives and Leadership to resolve workplace issues proactively and respectfully
Collaborates with HR team members to ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, CBA’s and best practices
Leads Human Resources projects that support organizational growth and process improvement.
Requirements
- CPHR designation is required, a Diploma or a Certificate in Human Resources is required.
- A degree in Labour Studies would be considered an asset.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Employee and Labour Relations with a strong foundation in labour relations and unionized workplace dynamics.
- Proven ability to interpret multiple Collective Agreements
- Demonstrated experience leading investigations, managing grievances, and supporting bargaining or arbitration processes.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and navigate situations with limited structure.
- Solid understanding of employment and Labour Relations legislation
- Must be Tech Savvy, and have worked within an HRIS system
- Valid class 5 driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and clear Vulnerable Sector checks.
- Clear Child Abuse Registry and satisfactory Prior Contact checks.
