Three years of experience working in a library or similar setting.
Position Summary
The Processing Specialist III (Temporary) is responsible to the Processing Archivist for processing collections from the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies and providing public reference service.
This position will focus on processing collections and additions that are less than twenty linear
feet, making them discoverable for public research.
The Special Collections Libraries are responsible for acquiring, preserving, and making available permanent historical records according to archival standards and procedures and for providing reference assistance to a variety of patrons.
This position has a limited-term appointment that is expected to end [1 year] after the start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term, contingent upon continued funding.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Familiarity with processing archival collections;
- Knowledge of ArchivesSpace or archival description;
- Familiarity with computer work and comfort in learning new skills;
- Ability to work effectively with patrons, donors, and co-workers;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy and to work independently within a framework of assigned responsibilities;
- Ability to be discreet and uphold the privacy of records.
Spending long periods of time at a computer terminal and lifting and moving boxes weighing approximately 40 pounds each required.

- Arranges and describes archival collections through the creation of finding aids in ArchivesSpace
- Accessions, appraises, and processes digital records and liaises with Digital Archivist in Digital Stewardship for their preservation
- Provides reference service to the University community and the general public by participating in staffing the reference desk and reading room, by developing and maintaining knowledge of collections within the library, and by assisting in tours and instruction as needed.
- Participates in library-wide communication by reading, responding to, and initiating information transmitted via GRAPEVINE (the Libraries' listserv) and other communication tools, and appropriate library-wide or departmental meetings and asking questions, seeking clarification, or initiating discussion on library issues.
- Maintains flexibility and awareness of changes in the department and organization and contributes to the team effort by assuming other similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.
