Sakai Principal
Role Overview:
Bainbridge Island School District is seeking a student-centered, relationship-driven leader to serve as Principal of Sakai Intermediate School. This role leads a collaborative school community of staff, students, and families to foster a strong sense of belonging; support high-quality, developmentally responsive teaching and learning for intermediate learners; and ensure the academic, social, and emotional growth of every Sakai student. The principal guides continuous improvement efforts, builds strong partnerships, and creates conditions for both students and staff to thrive.
Active Leadership Traits:
Data-Informed Advocacy: Uses multiple data sources to strengthen instruction and support the academic, social, and emotional development of intermediate learners.
Growth-Focused Leadership: Designs and facilitates targeted professional learning that supports staff growth and aligns practice with the BISD Strategic Plan and the needs of intermediate students.
Collaborative Modeling: Models and fosters a culture of teamwork, transparency, and shared responsibility across staff in service of student learning and belonging.
Inclusive Excellence: Builds and sustains a school culture that honors and responds to the diverse identities, strengths, and needs of each learner and family.
Strategic Resource Management: Aligns budgets and staffing to ensure resources directly support high-quality instruction and student well-being at the intermediate level.
Essential Functions:
Champions equity and inclusion in ways that reflect the developmental, cultural, and learning needs of intermediate learners and their families.
Leads the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) process at the classroom and school level to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of intermediate students.
Leads PBIS and social-emotional/behavioral supports using developmentally responsive practices appropriate for intermediate learners.
Guides high-quality instruction, curriculum, and assessment aligned to intermediate-grade learning standards and best practices.
Facilitates adult learning and instructional growth while building strong, trusting partnerships with staff, families, and community members.
Communicates clearly and effectively with students, families, and staff through accessible written communication and engaging large-group presentations.
Applies restorative, age-appropriate approaches to student behavior that preserve dignity, build skills, and strengthen relationships.
Leads school improvement efforts and contributes to district initiatives as a collaborative member of the administrative team.
Cultivates a warm, inclusive, and welcoming school culture that supports belonging, growth, and engagement for intermediate students, staff, & families.
Education & Experience
Required
Holds, or is eligible for immediate issuance of, a valid Washington State Administrative Credential.
Demonstrates at least five (5) years of successful teaching experience and a minimum of one year of educational leadership and/or supervisory experience.
Preferred
Formal training or preparation as a school administrator.
Master’s degree in education or a related field.

Contract: 260 days including
13 paid holidays & 30 vacation days
Salary: $173,210-184,005 per year
