Dog Care Specialist
Entry-Level positions available
Brown Dog Inn | Freeport, Maine
Shift: 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Weekends & Holidays required
Brown Dog Inn is a boutique dog boarding and enrichment facility providing exceptional care in a nature-inspired setting. We follow Fear Free® handling techniques and take a behavior-led approach to foster a calm and enjoyable environment for our canine guests.
What We’re Looking For:
Loves dogs and wants to build a career in animal care (no professional experience required — we train!)
Physically capable of walking dogs on uneven trails
Care about the wellbeing of animals
Weekend availability
Flexible and reliable
Strong customer service and team-player mindset
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather, hands-on with dogs, cleaning, and sanitizing
Able to stand for long periods of time
Strong interpersonal communication skills
About the Role:
Assist in activities wherever the team needs support
Lots of hiking — must be comfortable walking dogs on leash.
Monitoring and recording dog behavior, logging notes in charts
Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace
Communicating with teammates clearly and respectfully
Care for multiple dogs by supervising group play, providing enrichment and exercise
Preparing and distributing meals
Administering medications

- $18/hour -$22 starting pay; compensation increases based on experience

Requirements
- 18+ with reliable transportation
- Available 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., including weekends & holidays
- Physically active: able to stand, walk long periods, and handle dogs of all sizes
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
- Able to lift ~50 lbs (with assistance if needed)
- No experience required — must be eager to learn
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow routines
- Calm, patient, and confident with dogs
- Reliable, flexible, and team-oriented
- Comfortable cleaning, sanitizing, and working in a fast-paced environment
