Description
Maine Veterinary Medical Center is looking to add a compassionate and skilled Technician Assistant to our Ophthalmology team. The Ophthalmology Technician Assistant is a key member of a small, collaborative one-doctor specialty team focused on delivering exceptional ophthalmic care to patients. This role supports the service through skilled patient restraint, sterile instrument processing, and assisting with the day-to-day flow of appointments and procedures.At our Rarebreed clinic, you can help reimagine the veterinary experience in your community. Maine Veterinary Medical Center (MVMC) is a VECCS level one certified Rarebreed practice that has full in-house laboratory capabilities, a fluoroscopy suite for interventional procedures, a helical 16-slice CT, MRI, respiratory ventilator, in-house telemetric monitoring, ultrasound and endoscopy. MVMC has well-staffed departments in Neurology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Cardiology, Radiology, Rehab and Acupuncture and great team of emergency clinicians and criticalists to offer advanced services to a well-educated client base. https://mvmc.vet/
Ophthalmology Technician Assistant
Maine Veterinary Medical Center in Scarborough, ME
$18-$22 per hour
Eligible for quarterly bonuses under Rarebreed's profit-sharing program
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Safely restrain patients during ophthalmic examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
- Weigh patients and assist with basic patient intake procedures.
- Support the technician team with diagnostic testing and patient preparation as needed.
- Assist with maintaining patient comfort and safety during appointments and procedures.
- Escort clients and patients to and from exam rooms as needed.
- Assist with scheduling and rescheduling appointments.
- Request and organize medical records from referring veterinarians.
- Call clients to confirm upcoming appointments.
- Assist with basic client callbacks under the guidance of the doctor or supervisor.
- Scan and organize paper medical records into the patient's electronic file.
- Sterilize, pack, and maintain surgical instruments in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Assist with preparing the operating room prior to surgical procedures.
- Clean and reset the operating room following surgery.
- Assist the supervisor with administrative tasks throughout the day and week as needed.
- Restock exam rooms and treatment areas to ensure adequate supplies.
- Clean and maintain exam rooms and treatment spaces to uphold hospital cleanliness standards.
- Support overall service workflow to ensure smooth daily operations within the ophthalmology team.

REQUIREMENTS
- Detail oriented and well organized
- 1-2 years experience in a veterinary setting
- Excellent communication skills
- Self-motivated

- Ability to multi-task
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Basic computer skills
