SUMMARY
Soap Lake School District is seeking a student-centered Middle/High School Principal to lead our Grades 6-12 building. This role requires a collaborative instructional leader who builds trust, supports staff, engages families and students, and ensures sound fiscal and operational management. The successful candidate will foster a positive, inclusive, safe, and high-achieving school culture while supporting continuous improvement in academic achievement, student engagement, behavior systems, graduation readiness, and post-secondary preparation.
Contracted July 1–June 30; 215 days per year. FLSA Exempt position.
Responsibilities
- Assist instructional staff with alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, grading practices, and interventions with state and district learning goals.
- Foster a culture of data-informed decision making to monitor academic growth, course progress, attendance, behavior, graduation progress, and post-secondary readiness.
- Support teacher teams through collaborative professional learning, instructional coaching, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Oversee a school-wide MTSS framework to support the academic, behavioral, attendance, social-emotional, and college/career readiness needs of all students.
- Coordinate with staff to ensure timely interventions, progress monitoring, credit recovery, and supports for students who are not yet meeting grade-level, course, or graduation expectations.
- Promote an inclusive school environment where all students feel respected, supported, connected, and able to access high-quality learning opportunities.
- Ensure equitable access to resources, instructional supports, extracurricular opportunities, and support services for students with diverse needs, including students with disabilities, multilingual learners, highly capable students, and students needing additional academic or behavioral supports.
- Implement restorative, trauma-informed, and relationship-based approaches that strengthen school culture and provide constructive responses to student behavior.
- Maintain a safe and positive school climate built on respect, accountability, consistency, supervision, and support.
Oversee student discipline, attendance, supervision, and school safety practices in alignment with district policy, state law, and best practices. - Build strong partnerships with families, students, staff, community partners, and local agencies to support student success.
- Support student voice, leadership, belonging, and engagement through school activities, athletics, clubs, advisory systems, and other student-centered opportunities.
- Support and develop staff through ongoing feedback, evaluation, collaboration, professional development, and clear communication.
- Manage school resources responsibly and align the budget with school goals, student needs, program requirements, and district priorities.
- Oversee daily operations, including master scheduling, staffing assignments, safety protocols, student supervision, student activities and athletics, facility use, and building maintenance.
- Collaborate with district leadership to support school improvement efforts, state and federal program requirements, special education services, multilingual learner services, assessment coordination, and graduation requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field.
- Valid Washington Administrator Certificate with Principal endorsement.
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of secondary education, curriculum, instruction, assessment, interventions, and school improvement practices.
- Demonstrated ability to use data to improve student achievement, attendance, behavior, and student outcomes.
Demonstrated experience supporting student behavior systems, inclusive practices, restorative approaches, and a positive school culture. - Excellent communication, problem-solving, technology integration, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work positively in partnership with parents, staff, students, district leadership, and the community to promote student-centered learning.
- Demonstrated ability to foster an inclusive, equitable, safe, and engaging learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing educational needs with a flexible, collaborative, and positive attitude.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, experience with, and willingness to work with multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of Washington State graduation requirements, credit retrieval, student progress monitoring, and secondary scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
- Minimum of two years of successful administrative experience.
- Teaching or administrative experience at the middle school and/or high school level.
- Experience leading school improvement efforts at the secondary level.
- Experience supporting college, career, and post-secondary readiness pathways.
- Experience with PBIS, MTSS, trauma-informed practices, and restorative practices in a secondary school setting.
- Experience with master scheduling, staffing assignments, student supervision systems, and daily secondary school operations.
- Experience supporting extracurricular activities, athletics, student leadership, advisory systems, or other student engagement opportunities.
