HEAD OF COMPLIANCE ( Fintech/ Crypto Start-up) - Experience of AFM Authorisation and Ongoing Compliance Required

€150K - €175K + benefits & equity (Hybrid) Amsterdam

We are recruiting for our client, a global financial services group looking to launch a new office in Holland and are therefore looking to recruit an experienced Head of Compliance to help them achieve AFM Authorisation and then to be one of the Senior Leadership Team that will be based in Amsterdam. Reporting directly to the Local CEO and Board, duties will include:

• Lead the preparation and submission of the AFM applications for both MiFID and MiCA CASP authorisations.
• Own and coordinate all aspects of the application, including the Regulatory Business Plan, governance framework, ownership and management documentation, and financial projections.
• Serve as the primary contact with the AFM, managing correspondence, queries, and feedback during the authorisation process.
• Work closely with the Groups' legal, compliance, and executive teams in London to ensure consistency with group policies while meeting local regulatory requirements.
• Review and localise the Groups existing MiFID policies and procedures (developed and operated in London) to ensure alignment with Dutch regulatory and AFM expectations.
• Draft MiCA-specific policies and procedures from the ground up, addressing crypto asset custody, client asset protection, AML/CTF controls, market integrity, and consumer protection.
• Develop and maintain a compliance monitoring plan tailored to the Dutch entity, aligned with AFM supervisory expectations and the Group's local compliance framework.
• Ensure that all compliance frameworks reflect both professional and retail client requirements.
• Support and coordinate the preparation and submission of senior management applications (fit and proper assessments) for key function holders.
• Provide ongoing guidance to The Groups senior management and board on Dutch regulatory developments and supervisory expectations.
• Support the design and documentation of the governance and oversight structure for the Dutch entity.
• Embed and oversee policies for client classification, financial crime prevention, conduct of business, and market integrity.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a senior compliance role from any sector provided have experience of AFM licence applications (MiFID, MiCA, or equivalent financial authorisations). As such you will need an in-depth understanding of Dutch financial services regulation, the AFM supervisory process and ESMA regulatory frameworks and experience of engaging directly with the AFM, preparing formal submissions, and managing regulatory correspondence.

This position will initially be offered as a full-time contract during the authorisation phase, transitioning to a permanent Head of Compliance position upon authorisation. During the authorisation phase the role will be fully remote, once authorised the role will be a hybrid role with 3 or 4 days per week in the Amsterdam office.

and play a pivotal role in leading the firm's regulatory authorisation process, including owning the content, structure, and presentation of the AFM licence applications, developing and localising compliance policies and procedures, and engaging directly with the AFM throughout the approval process and then leading the Compliance Function once authorised.
