- Fleet Operations Manager
Description
Work is performed under the direction of the Public Works Director or designee. Responsible for the administration, maintenance, repair, utilization, lifecycle management, and replacement planning of the City’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, including specialized public safety and emergency response assets such as fire apparatus, rescue units, command vehicles, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles and equipment. These units operate under mission-critical readiness requirements and unique regulatory, safety, and performance standards that differ from typical municipal fleet operations. This includes oversight of preventive maintenance, unscheduled repairs, fuel systems, data tracking, and compliance with applicable regulations. This is an essential position; the incumbent will be required to work extended hours during climatic weather-related events or other emergencies.
Requirements
Education
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or a related field is preferred
Experience
Five (5) or more years of experience in automotive repair operations
At least three (3) years of supervisory experience
A comparable combination of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Licenses & Certifications
Valid Florida Driver’s License
Professional certifications related to fleet management, public works, or automotive maintenance (such as CAFleet, CPFM, or ASE) are desirable.

Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance operations and repair practices
Understanding of safety standards, occupational hazards, and regulatory compliance
Proven supervisory and team leadership skills
Ability to develop maintenance schedules, systems, and operational procedures
Experience with cost estimation, budgeting, and reporting
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
High ethical standards and commitment to public service
Physical Requirements
Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone
Ability to see, read, hear, and handle objects and controls
Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers and copiers
Physical ability to climb on and under equipment for inspections
