Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking applicants for faculty positions at our forthcoming Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) location in Melbourne, Florida. Located on Florida’s eastern Space Coast just 70 miles southeast of Orlando, our proposed additional location will reside on the Florida Tech campus. - Most of the initial faculty positions are anticipated to start in January or April 2024.
- Hiring is contingent upon the College’s final approval from its accrediting and licensing bodies.
- Faculty positions to be hired:
- Basic Science: Anatomy (Histology and/or Gross Anatomy) Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology
- OMM (Faculty and or Division Head if qualified)
Burrell College is located in Las Cruces, New Mexico on the campus of New Mexico State University and, if approved by all appropriate entities, includes a forthcoming additional location in Melbourne, Florida on the campus of Florida Institute of Technology. The College has been granted permission by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) to recruit to the Florida campus. Other required approvals could be received as soon as the late summer of 2023.

Summary:
We invite applications for faculty positions in the Department of Anatomy. The department is one of four basic science departments at Burrell and is responsible for providing anatomical curricular content in the osteopathic medical curriculum. We are a departmental team with backgrounds and research interests in a wide range of fields, including developmental anatomy; molecular biology; classical anatomy; craniofacial development; applied neuroscience; biological anthropology; and medical education, committed to delivering a collaboratively designed, highly integrated curriculum. We are seeking innovative and energetic team members with strong pedagogical versatility and a deep commitment to medical education along with a passion for scientific research and scholarship.
Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience in gross anatomical dissection, and expertise in one or more additional anatomical subdisciplines or medical imaging, at the graduate or medical school level. Candidates should be able to teach in one or more content areas across our systems-based curriculum, in classroom and laboratory settings, and have interest or experience in online instruction as well. Evidence of scholarship and student mentoring, with a strong record of collaboration and productivity, is also preferred in prospective candidates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruct osteopathic medical students in gross anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy, and medical imaging laboratory and classroom settings.
- Develop board-style (COMLEX/USMLE) exam questions.
- Participate in student mentoring and advising.
- Contribute to curricular development, implementation, and assessment.
- Provide service to the institution, community, and profession.
- Engage in scholarly and/or research activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Melbourne, Florida:

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Earned terminal degree (PhD, DO, MD, DSc, etc.) by start date.
- Experience teaching in a dissection-based gross anatomical curriculum and/or histology at the medical/graduate health professional level.
- Record of or demonstrated potential for growth in scholarly activity or research in the candidate’s chosen field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-doctoral experience
- Familiarity in teaching with various medical imaging modalities (eg: CT, MRI, ultrasound).
- Experience teaching in a medical education setting.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation at the university or graduate/medical school level.
- Experience with innovative/active teaching methods, including team-based learning, case-based learning, flipped classroom, distance learning, etc.
Note: Applicants must currently be authorized to lawfully work in the United States on a full-time basis.
