OverviewThe Orchards Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course located in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Originally designed by renowned golf course architect Donald Ross, the course is known for its classic New England layout, challenging greens, and exceptional conditioning.
The club offers a vibrant golf community with a strong membership base, active tournament schedule, and a growing calendar of leagues and member events throughout the season. The Orchards also features Tavern 22, the club's food and beverage operation, which serves as a social hub for members and guests.
Under the leadership of local management, Encore Leisure Group and Mount Holyoke College, the club continues to invest in its facilities, membership growth, and overall club experience. The Director of Golf will play a key role in shaping the golf operation, leading the professional staff, and enhancing the overall member and guest experience at one of Western Massachusetts' premier golf facilities.
The Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Director of Golf to lead all golf operations and deliver an exceptional member and guest experience.
The Director of Golf is responsible for overseeing the daily management of the golf department including the golf shop, outside services, driving range, tournaments, and instructional programming. This role works closely with club leadership to promote the game of golf, grow participation, and maintain a first-class golf operation.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a passion for service, player development, and creating an engaging golf environment for members and guests.
Experience Required
• PGA of America Member in good standing
• Minimum 3 years experience as a Head Golf Professional or senior Assistant Professional
• Proven leadership experience managing golf operations and staff
• Experience overseeing tournaments, leagues, and member programming
• Strong knowledge of golf shop operations including merchandising and POS systems
• Experience managing tee sheets, events, and daily play operations
• Excellent communication and member service skills
Preferred Experience
• Experience in private club or high-volume daily fee environment
• Familiarity with Golf Genius and modern golf POS systems
• Background in instruction and player development programs
Essential Responsibilities
Golf Operations
• Oversee all daily golf operations including the golf shop, outside services, driving range, and cart operations
• Manage tee sheet operations and ensure an outstanding experience for members and guests
• Supervise and lead a team of assistant professionals, shop staff, and outside services staff
Member & Guest Experience
• Maintain a welcoming, professional golf environment focused on exceptional service
• Address member inquiries and resolve customer service issues when necessary
• Foster a culture of hospitality and professionalism within the golf operation
Tournaments & Programming
• Plan and administer club tournaments, leagues, and golf events
• Develop programs that promote participation and engagement in the game of golf
• Work collaboratively with the Food & Beverage team on tournament and event packages
Staff Leadership
• Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate golf department staff
• Conduct regular staff meetings and provide leadership development for assistant professionals
• Oversee staff scheduling and operational coverage
Retail & Merchandising
• Manage golf shop merchandising, inventory levels, and retail sales programs
• Ensure the golf shop presentation meets club standards and maximizes profitability
Financial & Administrative
• Assist in developing and managing the annual golf operations budget
• Maintain golf control practices and accurate reporting
• Monitor operational performance and recommend improvements for efficiency and profitability

Compensation
• Base Salary: $70,000 - $72,800 annually, depending on experience
• Lesson revenue opportunities
• Junior camp program revenue share
