Job Description
The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts at Norfolk State University invites applications for the 12-month position of Chair of the Department of Psychology at the rank of associate or full professor, to begin Fall 2026. We seek a dynamic and visionary leader with a strong record of scholarship, teaching, and administrative experience to guide a vibrant department committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
Responsibilities
The Chair will provide strategic leadership and vision for the department, foster faculty development through mentoring and support research excellence, coordinate and serve on various departmental and college committees, guide and promote academic programming, assign and manage various departmental committees (e.g., curriculum, assessment, etc.), manage departmental budgeting, staffing, and resources with transparency and accountability, foster a collaborative and inclusive departmental culture as well as interdisciplinary collaboration within the university and with external partners, represent the department effectively within the college and university, instruct psychology courses with release time per semester based on departmental need and expertise.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
1. Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology.
2. Academic credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate/Full Professor
3. Demonstrated leadership experience in academic settings (e.g., program director, associate chair or committee chair, etc.).
4. Strong record of research, teaching, and service.
