The Career Coach supports undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, in exploring, preparing for, and achieving their career goals through a strengths-based, coaching-centered approach. This role empowers students to clarify interests, develop career readiness competencies, and take actionable steps toward experiential learning, professional employment, and graduate or professional school pathways. The Career Coach provides individualized coaching, delivers career education programming, and collaborates with faculty, employers, and alumni to promote student success and measurable post-graduate outcomes. This position also contributes to employer engagement, assessment efforts, and strategic initiatives that enhance the University's transformational student experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Students/Alumni:

Provide individualized career coaching to undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni through appointments, drop-ins, express coaching, and targeted outreach.

Utilize a strengths-based, coaching-centered methodology to support career exploration, vocational discernment, and informed decision-making.

Administer and interpret career assessments to guide self-awareness and career planning.

Partner with students to develop individualized career action plans and monitor measurable progress toward goals.

Coach students in preparation for experiential learning opportunities, internships, professional employment, and graduate or professional school pathways.

Deliver specialized coaching to graduate students regarding career transitions, industry-specific opportunities, and advanced-degree job markets.

Support alumni seeking career advancement, transition, or workforce re-entry.

2. Employer/Alumni Development:

Cultivate relationships with employers to expand internship, experiential learning, and professional employment opportunities.

3. Career Education/Presentations:

Design, develop, and facilitate career education workshops and seminars including:

Job and internship search strategies

Resume and cover letter development

Interview preparation and mock interviews

Networking and professional relationship building

LinkedIn optimization and personal branding

Salary negotiation and offer evaluation

Graduate and professional school preparation

Diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace

Portfolio development for creative professions

Transitioning from college to career

Deliver classroom presentations and outreach programming to student organizations, residence halls, summer orientation, and campus partners.

Develop career education curricula, workshop materials, digital resources, and targeted communications to support student engagement.

4. Faculty:

Partner with faculty and academic departments to integrate career development into curricular and co-curricular initiatives.

Conduct targeted outreach to faculty to promote Career Center services, internship processes, and career education programming.

Collaborate on committees and academic initiatives related to experiential learning and career readiness.

Respond to faculty inquiries regarding internships, employer engagement, and student career preparation

5. Event Planning/Promotion/Evaluation:

Contribute to the planning, promotion, and execution of career fairs, networking events, panels, themed programming, and employer engagement initiatives.

Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess program effectiveness and student outcomes.

Support internal Career Center teams and participate in university-wide committees.

6. Project Management & Administrative Tasks:

Support and maintain the Career Center's career management systems and digital career platforms.

Track and analyze student, alumni, and employer engagement data in alignment with reporting and
assessment practices.

Prepare reports, professional correspondence, and strategic communications as needed.

Identify and contribute to new career development tools and resources that enhance student access and engagement.

Required Qualifications:

This role requires a Bachelors degree within the following fields of study: Business, Communication, Education, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field. Must have 1-3 years of relevant work experience.

Must be comfortable speaking in front of groups, as well as in one-on-one situations. Strong communication/platform skills are required. Must possess exceptional teaching and facilitation skills to lead career education seminars. Will serve as an ambassador for the University with parents, alumni and employers.

Desired Qualifications:

Understanding of the career management lifecycle and how it impacts career decision-making. Knowledge of/exposure to career assessments, such as the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) and Myers Briggs Type Indicator. Familiarity with counseling theory and principles.

Ability to analyze career assessments. Develop/summarize evaluation tools. Develop and track student/alumni/employer activities following data management processes. Ability to plan and organize projects up to six months in advance.

Ability to prioritize project work. Must be able to work in teams, as well as autonomously. Ability to lead campus-wide teams. Ability to manage multiple tasks and constituencies.

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and Publisher. Good understanding of the Internet and career databases. Knowledge of Microsoft Access a plus.

Salary Range:

$42,400 - $58,300

Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt
