BUILDING OFFICIAL
The City of Sugar Creek, MO is accepting applications for the position of Building Official. The Building Official is an appointed and non-exempt hourly position, responsible for the enforcement coordination of the city’s building and property maintenance codes and performs all other duties normally encountered in connection with building inspections, plan review and code enforcement.
This position is responsible for overseeing the Building Department. This position involves interpreting and enforcing local, state, and federal building codes, investigating certain nuisance complaints, and managing the permitting and inspection process. Requires strong computer and office skills and detailed record keeping. The Building Official works with other departments and is the liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission for rezoning, lot splits, and other municipal processes. Knowledge of construction and code practices and principles, legal issues, and strong communication skills required.
Applicants with an Associate’s degree or higher degree preferred. Experience in building inspections, construction, and code enforcement is mandatory. Two years’ experience in the field is required. Technical education/Certified Inspector through ICC is highly desirable. An equivalent of experience and education will be considered. Salary to be determined based on qualifications and experience.
