Description
Our fast-growing, medium-sized immigration and criminal defense law firm is looking to add an associate attorney.
Our firm largely serves the immigrant community of West Michigan, with an emphasis on immigration court defense and immigration family practice. (The firm’s criminal practice is often linked to immigration practice as well).
Given the current political climate, some element of the news affects the practice every day ... this is a tremendously relevant and fascinating area in which to be working right now!
Generally speaking, the preferred candidate should have a demonstrated history of commitment to learning new things and concern for community, mixed with personal entrepreneurship. More specifically, the preferred candidate should be able to demonstrate some combination of strong academic credentials, a history of moot court or mock trial participation, law review/journal, or significant volunteer or professional experience.
This position requires admission to Michigan bar, salary to be commensurate with background & experience.

Responsibilities and Duties
Represent & defend immigrant clients in removal proceedings.
Draft motions and briefs.
Prepare applications for immigration benefits & assemble with relevant evidence.
Meet with clients re: all of the above.
Legal research.
Drafting correspondence & memoranda.
Travel for court hearings.
40-50 hours per week.
Qualifications and Skills
Spanish fluency would be a plus, and would be compensated accordingly, but is not required.
Experience with Apple products, Microsoft Word, Adobe (preferred, not required).
