The City of Anaheim’s Planning & Building Department is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking Assistant Building Official to join its Building Division and help lead one of the most dynamic building programs in Southern California.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a building and development professional who is energized by complex projects, enjoys solving challenging technical and regulatory issues, and understands the importance of delivering responsive, high-quality public service. The Assistant Building Official will provide leadership and coordination for plan review, permitting, building code compliance, and related programs, while serving as a key advisor and partner to the Building Official, department leadership, City staff, applicants, design professionals, contractors, and the development community.
Anaheim is experiencing an exciting period of investment and transformation. The Building Division plays a critical role in supporting some of the region’s most complex and high-profile projects, including:
OCVIBE — an approximately $4 billion entertainment, housing, and mixed-use development
Disneyland Resort — continued capital improvement and in-park development projects
Disneyland Forward — a major long-term expansion and development initiative
A diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial, hospitality, entertainment, and mixed-use projects
These projects provide the opportunity to apply sound technical judgment, foster innovative and practical solutions, and help move complex projects from concept to construction. The successful candidate will play an integral role in shaping how Anaheim responds to unique and thoughtfully designed projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety, code compliance, and customer service.
Applicants are encouraged to apply early. Applicants that apply after the first review date of November 18, 2026, are not guaranteed to be considered for this recruitment. This recruitment may close at any time without notice after the first review date.
